Catherine McLeod formed New Horizons Trading Company (NHTC) in 1996 as a wholesaler focused on seasonal and tabletop goods. In 1998, she opened a store in downtown Pittsboro, NC focused on women’s clothing, shoes, and gifts named New Horizons. This location, now known as New Horizons Downtown, has been serving our vibrant community for 25 years. 

In 2016, Catherine realized there was a gap in apparel and footwear options for men in Pittsboro. Catherine tried bringing men’s shoes and a small bit of apparel into the downtown store but there simply wasn’t room for them. So, the seeds of a business idea were planted and New Horizons West was formed! 

New Horizons West focused on men’s and women’s apparel, footwear and gear and was curated for the customer who enjoyed outdoor activities, did work outdoors, and who traveled. The store was much bigger and had a casual and upbeat vibe. In 2020, a webshop (newhorizonstrading.com) was created to sell our products online for delivery anywhere in the United States.

After 7 years of running both stores Catherine realized that she needed to bring on a partner. So, in 2023 she teamed up with her and Sara’s son, Tyler Harris, and they became co-owners of New Horizons West. It was decided to re-brand the store and New Horizons West became Chatham Outfitters!
